8 Best RFID-Blocking Wallets for Men to Protect Your Cards

best rfid blocking wallet

Technological advances are the way of the world and they’ve made it a better place in countless ways. Unfortunately, they’ve also helped spawn a new kind of criminal; one who’s kept up with the times while ripping off innocent folks without them being aware of it.

Thankfully, products like RFID wallets  – including our choice for the best RFID wallet for men, the Shielded Wallet RFID Wallet for Men – help keep cyber and digital criminals at bay.

How do RFID wallets work? We’ll take a closer look later in this piece, but they thwart modern-day pickpockets who can steal your identification and credit card information with a cheap electronic device. Victims don’t know it’s happening because there’s no physical contact.

Our goal is to cover everything RFID wallet in this post, including reviews of what we think are the best products in the genre. Let’s begin with some RFID wallet buying tips.

Before You Buy: 6 Things to Consider When Purchasing an RFID-Blocking Wallet

Choosing an RFID-blocking wallet that best suits your purposes is a lot like buying a regular wallet. That is, some things – such as carrying capacity and ease of access – remain important whether a wallet offers RFID protection or not.

1. RFID, or not

Let’s get the obvious out of the way and say that, if you’re looking for an RFID wallet, then it makes sure that it has the technology. OK, that’s about as straightforward as is gets, but the last thing you want to do is find out that your wallet offers no protection at all.

2. Style

RFID wallets come in a variety of styles, just like regular wallets, and what style you choose depends on how you use it, among other things. For instance, if you typically carry your wallet in your front pants pocket, then one with a minimalist or slim design is your best bet. But there are also RFID wallets in traditional bifold and trifold designs.

3. Carrying capacity

A wallet’s style also includes its carrying capacity, i.e., how much stuff you can, and want, to jam in it. If you like to carry a lot of cash, a larger wallet, such as a bifold or trifold design or one with a zippered pocket, is a good option. But if you don’t carry a lot beyond your identification and a few credit cards, then a slim wallet may be more to your liking.

  • The classic bifold remains one of the most popular choices among men because, in part, they’re easy to access. You just lift the wallet’s flap and you’ll have everything you need in front of you.
  • A trifold generally includes a multitude of compartments, which helps make it useful to men who carry a lot of cards (and cash). Don’t stuff your trifold to full, however, because sitting on it for long periods can become a literal pain in the ass.

4. Ease of access

No man wants a wallet that makes it a chore to access the things you need the most, such as your ID or certain credit cards. It’s important to evaluate how easy it is to remove those items, as well as cash.

Also, think about how often you access your wallet and potentially expose your cash, cards, and ID to people who may be around you, including strangers.

Again, if you carry cash, a bifold, trifold or another type of bigger wallet is often your safest bet. Meanwhile, a thin front pocket design works if you infrequently open your wallet to use a small number of credit cards.

5. Price

RFID-blocking wallets have been around long enough that they no longer belong in the “novelty” category. That’s good news for consumers, who’ve seen the price of RFID wallets decrease in the past couple of years. You’ll have plenty of good RFID wallets to choose from in the $15 to $25 range, although you can find good wallets for under $15, as well.

6. Don’t forget your wardrobe

If you truly want to be a sharp-dressed, fashionable man, then it doesn’t hurt to have a wallet that best matches the clothes you wear most of the time. A wallet with a darker finish is a good match for men who often wear suits, while a lighter, leather wallet pairs perfectly with jeans.

Let’s take a look at our choices for the best RFID-blocking wallets for men.

The 8 Best RFID-Blocking Wallets for Men 2019

1. Shielded Wallets RFID Top Grain Leather Wallet for Men

Shielded Wallets RFID Top Grain Leather Wallet for Men

The Shielded Wallets Top Grain Leather Wallet has everything you need, and expect, from an RFID product: it uses technology to protect your ID, credit cards, debit cards, and even your financial information from wireless theft.

All of the Shielded Wallets products come with an RFID lining that serves as a safeguard between your wallet and potential bad guys and women while giving you the security you need and deserve. Each wallet has approval for 13.56 MHz frequency (the frequency at which credit cards operate), while you also get double the material from previous Shielded Wallets versions.

Then again, Shielded Wallets was founded on the principle that your wallet can help prevent crime. Their products provide an extra layer of security in a world in which cyber and digital crime continues to evolve and grow rapidly. It also means you don’t have to stuff your wallet with a bulky wad of cash (good for you if it’s a stash big enough to be considered “bulky”) instead of taking the lighter route with credit cards.

But we didn’t include this wallet on your list simply because it prevents electronic theft – after all, every product we review in this post can, and should, do that. There’s a lot else we like about the Shielded Wallets wallet, including that it consists of 100% genuine top grain cowhide leather. We think it’s the best RFID-blocking wallet for men.

It also includes tough stitching that helps make it durable and something you’ll have with you a long time before it’s time for a replacement.

Their sleek bifold design looks good, too, and is lightweight enough that you hardly know that you’re carrying it. We also like that it comes with a full 100% money back guarantee; if you don’t like it, send it back for a full refund.

Pros

  • Double the RFID protection as previous versions
  • Durable
  • Money-back guarantee

Cons

  • Space is a bit tight to carry more than your necessary credit cards

Bottom Line

While it’s a challenge to keep pace with cyber and digital crime while guaranteeing 100% security, Shielded Wallets knows how to fight back. Their wallets offer serious protection, look good, and should last you a long time.

2. Polare Men’s RFID Blocking Vintage Italian Leather Bifold Wallet

Polare Men’s RFID Blocking Vintage Italian Leather Bifold Wallet

California-based Polare prides itself on selling products made from high-quality Italian cowhide leather.

Their wallets have a masculine, rugged look, and built to last thanks to handmade craftsmanship that includes strong, durable stitching.

And, like a lot of quality leather products, their RFID-blocking wallet ages well and even looks better the longer you own it.

Of course, it also comes with RFID technology that keeps scammers from swiping your financial, credit card, and personal information.

The bill compartment is fully-lined, and both the inside and outside of this wallet consists of genuine Italian leather.

Polare also gives you two sizes to choose from with their RFID leather bifold wallet. There’s a smaller version that fits U.S. dollars, and a larger version more suitable for Euros and Yen. Each size includes six card slots, two bill pockets, two money pockets, and the fully-lined compartment.

Another reason to like this wallet is its 1-year money back guarantee that includes a full refund if you’re not satisfied with the product.

Pros

  • High-quality design made from Italian leather
  • Comes in two sizes
  • Masculine look

Cons

  • Card slots are stiff at the beginning but stretch over time

Bottom Line

The Polare RFID bi-fold is the go-to choice of many consumers looking for a high-quality design that protects would-be scammers. It also comes in two sizes.

3. RFID Blocking Men’s Bifold Wallet by Leopardd

RFID Blocking Men’s Bifold Wallet by Leopardd

Any product that includes the term “military grade” in its description conjures up certain words and images – like “tough,” “resilient,” “a force to be reckoned with.” Leopard’s RFID-blocking bifold wallet is all of those things while providing superior (military grade) blocking and scanning.

Why else is this wallet on our list? Here’s a closer look:

  • Made from full-grain Napa cowhide, it’s soft, smooth and durable. You’ll like how it looks when compared to many other RFID wallets on the market, and it’s made to last thanks to its overall durability.
  • Strong-stitched seams and rounded edges make it easy to carry in any pocket without an additional burden.
  • The design is super-slim – making it the best RFID minimalist wallet in our minds – but still has plenty of room to carry all of your essentials; it has six card slots, two additional pockets under the slots for important papers or receipts, an ID window, as well as plenty of space for your cash, bills, etc.
  • Its slimmer design makes it easier to access when you’re at the store or traveling, while it also fits comfortably in any pant pocket.
  • Its military-grade security technology keeps all of your cards secure, whether they’re credit cards, debit cards, a driver license another ID cards, bus cards, shopping cards, etc. It’s certainly in the conversation when discussing the best wallet to protect credit cards.
  • It also comes in a nice box that helps to make it a great gift for any man.
  • Leoppard offers a 30-back money guarantee in which you receive a full refund if you aren’t satisfied with their products.

Pros

  • Slim design that still holds a lot
  • Excellent RFID technology
  • Comfortable to carry

Cons

  • Few if any, but ID window adds a bit of extra bulk

Bottom Line

There’s simply a lot to like about Leopardd’s RFID wallet – from its highly-rated technology to its comfortable slim design and the amount of “stuff” you can carry in it.

4. Serman Brands RFID Blocking Slim Bifold Minimalist Front Pocket Wallet

Serman Brands RFID Blocking Slim Bifold Minimalist Front Pocket Wallet

Many men prefer to carry their wallet in a front pocket for a lot of reasons. For one, it’s better protected from pickpockets (at least in theory), it’s easy to access, and you don’t have to endure the literal pain in the ass of sitting on a bulky wallet all day.

Serman Brands has you front pocket-wearers covered with their Slim Bifold RFID that’s an excellent scan proof wallet that looks great thanks to its vintage leather design.

Serman Brands relies on RFID Secure Technology that consists of a unique metal composite designed to block 13.56 MHz or higher RFID signals while protecting the valuable information stored within chip technology so commonly found in credit cards today.

Their RFID-blocking wallet also offers the convenience of a slim, lightweight design that’s large enough to hold more items than you might think by looking at it. After all, it fits 6 to 8 cards plus U.S. bills without creating additional bulk in a wallet that measures 4 x 3 x 4 inches.  We also like its finger cutout which allows you take things out of it more easily.

The Serman Brands’ wallet also includes a photo ID slot and a money clip for which to carry cash. But, again, it’s a slim design that doesn’t feel any bulkier than your smartphone (and may even be lighter). One thing you won’t have to worry about is an unsightly lump in your pants that’s an issue with heavier wallets.

While this wallet offers plenty of protection against would-be cyber and digital thieves, it doesn’t block the lower frequencies used for hotel key cards, employee badges, transit passes, etc., which is a good thing. The Serman Brands team, which originated in California thanks to the efforts of a father and son, is committed to producing products the enhance the time management of its customers.

The company also claims that it utilizes the “finest” full-grain leather in the wallet industry, of which we have no opinion. But this wallet looks good enough for that to be plausible, at the least.

The Serman Brands RFID Blocking Bifold wallets comes in several vintage leather colors – Texas brown, California desert, Canyon red, Charcoal black, and Slate gray. Non-vintage (dressed) leather colors include Jet black, mahogany, and chocolate.

Pros

  • Great for storing in front pockets
  • Holds a lot of items for a slim design
  • Quality leather

Cons

  • Some users say it doesn’t wear as well as some other RFID wallets

Bottom Line

From its stylish design to its superior functionality, the Serman Brands wallet has everything a man could want from an RFID-blocking wallet, not the least of which are men who prefer carrying their wallets in a front pocket.

5. Lethnic Men’s Minimalist RFID Front Pocket Slim Wallet

Lethnic Men’s Minimalist RFID Front Pocket Slim Wallet

Another cool RFID wallet that’s ideal for men who prefer front pocket carry is Lethnic’s Men’s Minimalist wallet. It’s ultra lightweight, slim, and very convenient to use.

All of Lethnic’s products are handmade from 100% leather and demonstrate plenty of dedication to craftsmanship. Their minimalist front pocket wallet is just what its name implies – thin, slim, and without any unnecessary bulk.

The slim design helps make it ideal to carry in a front pocket, as mentioned, but also in a vest pocket. It even fits nicely in the front pockets of skinny jeans without showing excess bulk.

Nonetheless, It offers enough room to carry seven cards and includes a money pocket. If you want a thin, smaller wallet that still holds everything you need – at least most everything you need – then Lethnic’s wallet is worthy of your consideration. We even like its attractive, glossy look.

Most importantly, Lethnic also incorporates RFID technology that blocks wrongdoers from swiping your credit card and other personal information. It also protects electronic information and even HID I Class newer cards.

Pros

  • Very slim, light design
  • Attractive leather finish
  • Provides room to carry everything you need

Cons

  • May be a bit small for some

Bottom Line

You won’t have to worry about excess bulk when carrying Lethnic’s RFID Front Pocket Wallet around. Its overall size is even smaller than many other slim designs but you can still carry your most important cards and personal ID info comfortably.

6. Alpine Swiss Men’s RFID Blocking Leather Multi-Card High Capacity Bifold Wallet

Alpine Swiss Men’s RFID Blocking Leather Multi-Card High Capacity Bifold Wallet

Alpine Swiss has risen to become an emerging lifestyle brand that offers fashionable, sought-after looks in footwear, clothing, and accessories. The latter category has our attention for the moment thanks to the brand’s RFID-blocking leather wallet.

While its full name is something of a mouthful, it also says it all: leather, multi-card and high overall capacity, and bi-fold. Indeed, it’s all of those things and comes in a stylish design crafted from quality genuine leather that’s durable yet soft to the touch.

The Alpine Swiss RFID-blocking wallet also combines style with functionality. For starters, it incorporates RFID technology certified through independent lab testing. Its chips operate at 13.56 MHz frequency without blocking the frequencies of proximity cards such as ID badges, hotel cards, and most transit cards.

Functionality comes from spacious carrying capacity that belies the wallet’s slim design. Each wallet comes with a fully-lined bill section, a convenient center flip and ID window, and room enough for 10 credit cards. There are also smaller interior windows that can hold additional cash, receipts, or whatever.

This wallet has a sleek look and design that enables it to pair well with a variety of wardrobe choices. Even better, its shape makes it comfortable to wear in any pants pocket, including in the front pocket of tighter-fitting jeans.

It’s also available in a variety of colors and comes with Alpine Swiss’s unique logo. It’s a nice-looking wallet, no question.

We also think it’s cool that Alpine Swiss dedicates itself to charitable foundations such as the Children’s Hunger Fund. They partner with CHF to donate 2,500 meals every day – year-round – for needy children around the world.

Pros

  • Plenty of carrying capacity
  • Comfortable enough to use in front and back pockets
  • Well-crafted look and design

Cons

  • Some say it’s not as durable as some other wallets

Bottom Line

It’s hard not to like a wallet that provides the RFID protection that you need while offering several other advantages, including spacious interior capacity and a cool design.

7. HIMI Genuine Leather RFID Blocking Bifold Wallet

HIMI Genuine Leather RFID Blocking Bifold Wallet

We include HIMI’s Genuine Leather RFID Blocking Bifold wallet on our list for a variety of reasons – which isn’t unlike any of the other wallets we’ve included.

But, like the others, this wallet rises above the rest because of functionality, design, craftsmanship, and more. Plus, last but not least, it provides excellent protection thanks to advanced RFID Secure technology, a metal composite engineered to block 13.56 MHz or higher RFID signals.

We also like how it looks thanks, in part, to its genuine vegetable-tanned cowhide leather cover. It has a smooth, soft, and comfortable texture, while the ingredients used in vegetable tanning are natural and not chemical-based.

What are its features? Well, it has two ID windows in which you can carry your driver’s license and other identification – and which allow for easy access – plus it has eight card slots and two others behind them. You can carry all the cards you need for your daily life. All in all, you can carry 10 cards or more.

It also has plenty of space for cash, store cards, receipts, etc. While it’s not an overly bulky wallet, it may be a bit big for storing in your front pocket. We like its design and many reviewers speak extol its virtues because its stitching and other materials hold up well to wear and tear.

Pros

  • Ample room for cards and cash
  • Leather is soft, smooth, and comfortable
  • Excellent RFID technology

Cons

  • A bit too bulky for front pocket use

Bottom Line

HIMI’s bifold wallet combines functionality and a nice design for a wallet that’s one of the best you’ll find security wallet RFID market.

8. Bellroy Hide & Seek Slim Leather Wallet

Bellroy Hide & Seek Slim Leather Wallet

Another high-quality product in the slim leather wallet category is Bellroy’s Hide & Seek RFID. If you prefer only to carry what you need, or have the urge to “downsize” your wallet, this is another strong option to consider.

First, the design. Bellroy promotes its slim leather RFID wallet as having a classic appearance, but one that still has a modern appeal, especially as it relates to slim wallet designs. It’s a bi-fold style that maintains a traditional look, but still feels slim. It’s a nice combination.

While it has a slim design, it also provides ample room for everything you need to carry every day. It can comfortably hold up to 12 cards and it has a covered compartment that keeps large bills hidden from view. It also has a flat-pack storage section that holds your extra cards in a secure location while not adding additional bulk.

This wallet consists a water-resistant (it’s waterproof, in fact) combination of Venture-weave polyester and leather. While the leather is a bit stiff at first, it should settle into its true shape and suppleness after only a few days. Like any other slim wallet, take care not to over-stuff it with cards and other items while placing undue stress on the stitching and other materials.

The leather is top grain and environmentally-certified, which isn’t a surprise when you consider that Bellroy works hard to reduce its impact on the environment during its production processes. Their products, which include wallets, bags, work accessories, backpacks, and more, are designed to provide streamlined options and built to last.

Pros

  • Traditional look, modern design
  • Can carry a lot without adding additional bulk
  • Waterproof

Cons

  • Its “hidden” slots may be a bit small for business cards

Bottom Line

Bellroy’s brand gets plenty of rave reviews and with good reason. Their slim RFID wallet has plenty of helpful features, looks good, and won’t add extra bulk to your daily load.

What Does RFID Technology Do (And How it Works)

Most of us may only have become familiar with RFID technology in the past couple of years, perhaps even more recently. But there’s nothing new about it. RFID was first used in the 1960s as a way to keep track of inventory.

An RFID chip transmits data through electromagnetic (RFID) waves that a scanner picks up and then reads. One way to think about RFID is that it’s like a barcode except, unlike a barcode, an RFID tag doesn’t need to be visible for a scanner to read it. Distance is the key, however: an RFID reader needs to be near enough to a tag to read it.

RFID technology has a multitude of uses, including to facilitate automatic tolling systems, gates, for vehicle identification, for even to track pets and livestock. Credit card companies began to use the technology about 15 years ago by embedding their cards with RFID chips that transmit payment information through a credit card reader. “Smart” cards are credit cards that enable users to make a payment without having to swipe their card; you simply place it near an RFID reader, which scans it.

One acronym frequently used when discussing RFID is MHz, which stands for megahertz. Megahertz measures the speed of electronic devices. One of the most common frequencies used for RFID systems is 13.56 MHz; this indicates a smart card system that cycles at 13,560,000 waves per second. Yes, that’s pretty damn fast but consider this: wireless networks and satellite systems operate in gigahertz (GHz), or 1 billion waves per second.

The bottom line is that RFID technology makes scanning certain documents, including passports and driver licenses, faster and easier.

Many other products incorporate RFID technology and come in many materials, styles, shapes, and colors, including card cases and sleeves, passports covers, and even some travel bags.

Modern credit cards may also incorporate a couple of other technologies: EMV and NFC.

EMV (Europay, Master Card, Visa) uses chip technology instead of magnetic strips to safeguard credit card information. NFC (Near Field Communication) uses chips that are part of a wireless link. Small data gets exchanged when another chip activates the NFC chip.

How crucial is it to have RFID technology?

The above question sparks plenty of debate. While it’s true that RFID chips may pose a unique security risk (someone can pickpocket you without ever touching you), RFID skimming – at least not yet – doesn’t exactly resemble a crime wave.

Some RFID myths

A common myth concerning RFID technology is that it makes your wallet thicker and heavier when, in fact, it adds no weight or increases a wallet’s size. But there are other myths associated with RFID:

A persistent myth regarding credit card protection is that you can wrap them in tin foil and get the same protection that you can with RFID. While it does offer some protection, you also run the risk of the foil scratching up your card’s magnetic strip and its chip. Why take that risk, and then have to go through the hassle of having to replace your card and waiting for new one to arrive?

Others have wrapped aluminum foil around their wallet and covered it with duct tape. Does it work? Maybe, but you’ll have one ugly looking wallet.

The perils of RFID technology

The biggest disadvantage of RFID technology is that it’s fairly easy for someone to scan it with a handheld reader and, conceivably, steal your personal information, including credit card info. Some handheld readers have enough range to pick up an RFID signal several feet away, as long as the signal is unobstructed, that is.

Meanwhile, RFID has several advantages for criminals. For one, they don’t have to hack into databases, or have advanced computer knowledge to obtain credit card info elsewhere, such as from e-commerce sites. They don’t even need much technical expertise; they can simply buy an RFID scanner and have enough know-how and dexterity to swipe it near where a person’s important info is stored – such as in their wallet that’s in their back pocket.

Then again, if you only carry cards in your wallet, or elsewhere on your body, that don’t have RFID technology, you needn’t worry.

How We Chose The Best RFID Wallets For Our List

You won’t find data that lists how often RFID wallets thwart would-be criminals. Statistics like that, which we understand won’t ever exist, would help in choosing the best RFID wallets for men, but we had to rely on other criteria.

For example, functionality was a key factor in choosing the wallets for our list, and included things like ease-of-access, room for cards and personal information, and more. We also considered each wallet’s design carefully and made sure to include slim-design wallets suitable for front pocket use. The reviews of others, particularly customers, were important.

Conclusion

We’d also love your input. Do you own an RFID-blocking wallet? If so, what brand? What do you like about it? As always, we welcome your feedback.
